Company Profile

Company Overview

Catholic Health East (CHE) was formed in 1998 by its sponsors to strengthen the role and identity of the Catholic health ministry in the eastern United States. Catholic Health East is grounded in the sponsors' historic commitment to the dignity of every individual, the sacredness of life, and special dedication to caring for the poor, the elderly, and the disadvantaged.

Company History

On May 1, 2013, a new organization was formed by the consolidation of CHE and Trinity Health, creating one of the largest multi-institutional Catholic health care delivery systems in the nation. It serves people and communities in 21 states from coast to coast with 82 hospitals, 89 continuing care facilities and home health and hospice programs that provide nearly 2.8 million visits annually. The intent of the consolidation remains to strengthen the CHE and Trinity shared mission, increase excellence in care and advance transformative efforts with their unified voice.

With annual operating revenues of about $13.3 billion and assets of about $19.3 billion, the new organization returns almost $1 billion to its communities annually in the form of charity care and other community benefit programs. It employs more than 87,000 people, including 4,100 employed physicians. The consolidated ministry is committed to those who are poor and underserved in its communities and is known for its focus on the country's aging population. As a single, unified ministry, the organization is the innovator of Senior Emergency Departments, the largest not-for-profit provider of home health care services — ranked by number of visits — in the nation, as well as the nation’s leading provider of PACE (Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly) based on the number of programs
