We are seeking an Indiana University student intern with a strong interest in software development and systems programming. The intern will assist with the design and development of new software components, gaining practical experience with modern programming practices and contributing to ongoing engineering projects. This is a hands-on role where you will contribute directly to designing, coding, and testing features that enhance our security detection capabilities.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Researches, designs, and implements a beacon detection plugin using Go, Rust, Java, Python, and/or C++
- Leverages stream processing engines like Apache Flink or Arroyo
- Writes efficient, maintainable, and well-documented code
- Collaborates with mentors and team members to understand requirements and system integration
- Develops and executes unit tests to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Assists in debugging, performance tuning, and optimization
- Documents implementation details, usage, and troubleshooting steps
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Current Indiana University student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Engineering, or a related field
Required
- Coursework or experience in 1 programming language: Go, Rust, Java, Python, or C++
- Experience with Git or other version control systems
- Prior project or research experience involving systems programming or security analytics
- Experience with container orchestration tools like kubernetes
Required
- Strong written and verbal communication and listening skills
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, software design)
- Familiarity with Linux environments and command-line tools
- Interest in or exposure to cybersecurity, intrusion detection, or anomaly detection techniques
- Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, etc.)
Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location
